PO- en VO-raad: from legacy website to Mendix in four months

Finaps rebuilt the existing website samenwerkingsverbandenopdekaart.nl in Mendix, integrating it seamlessly into the PO- and VO-raad’s existing application landscape within four months.

Their Challenge

The PO- and VO-raad represent and support school boards in Dutch primary and secondary education, respectively, advocating for their interests and promoting high-quality education.

The PO- and VO-raad wanted to rebuild their existing website, samenwerkingsverbandenopdekaart.nl, in Mendix so that it would integrate seamlessly with their existing Mendix application landscape. This is a public website where information on collaborations between schools in regions across the Netherlands is visible at a glance.

The first challenge was migrating a large number of charts and their underlying data. This required an investigation into how the same functionality could be reproduced while maintaining usability and performance.

The second challenge was extending the application to the public making security, maintainability and optimisation key considerations.

Our Solution

Finaps worked closely with the PO- and VO-raad to prepare samenwerkingsverbandenopdekaart.nl for production within four months. By leveraging the expertise of an Expert Mendix Business Engineer and a Mendix Business Engineer with extensive high-code knowledge, the team quickly delivered high-quality, reusable data visualizations applicable across other parts of the Mendix application.

To extend the existing application, a technical approach was designed and defined in advance. This ensured that the integration of the new functionality was carried out seamlessly, without compromising the quality, stability or performance of the rest of the application.
